A male leopard of about five years old was rescued from a well in Shelim-Loliem after struggling to stay afloat the entire night. Locals contacted Hathipal Rescue Centre of Cotigao Wildlife Sanctuary after noticing the animal. Forest officials sent a team to rescue the animal and released it back into the wild. Range Forest Officer (RFO) Anand Mestri said that the animal appeared to be in good health.
Marchon Fernandes, a local resident of the area, said that leopard sightings are quite common in the area. He stated that the leopards often attack the pet dogs of residents. He also asserted that locals have reported these incidents to forest officials on many occasions.
