Marcos Gonsalves President of Konkani Yuva Sahitya Sammelan

Marcos Gonsalves, a young writer, dramatist and journalist, has been unanimously chosen to be the President of the 22nd Konkani Yuva Sahitya Sammelan, beginning on 17 March. 

The two-day annual literary meet for the students and youth has been organised jointly this year by Goa Konkani Academy and Dnyanprasarak Mandal’s College, at Assagao. 

46-year-old Gonsalves has been penning down his literature and other works fluently in Konkani in Devanagari and Roman scripts as well as in Marathi and English. He has to his credit several books and articles related to poetry, short stories, one-act plays, biographies, research papers, and Tiatr.

He has bagged several awards for his literary works and cultural performances, including the ‘Yuva Srujan’ Award by the Government of Goa, the ‘Yuva Sahityik’ awards by Goa Konkani Academy as well as Dalgado Konkani Academy, ‘Writer of the Year’ Award by ‘Gulab’ Magazine, ‘Best Journalist’ Awards in memory of Felicio Cardozo as well as by Konkani Bhasha Mandal and many more.

He has also been awarded several prizes for his works in the fields of literature, research, scripting Tiatr as well as directing Tiatr by renowned organisations like Kala Academy Goa as well as several other organisations and magazines working in the field of literature, journalism and theatre. Students of Std IX study his research work ‘Kristanvancho Jagor’ in the school curriculum. 

To date, the Salcete-based writer hailing from Raia village has 13 books published of poetry, short stories, creative essays, one-act plays, biography, research works, and Tiatr for children. 

Besides his professional contribution to journalism in Devanagari and Roman Konkani, Marathi and English, he is also editing a magazine ‘Umalle’. He works for Herald, covering the whole of Salcete and adjoining talukas in South Goa.
