Rajendra Kerkar, living in a remote village of Keri in Sattari taluka of North Goa, is a renowned environmentalist and a dedicated researcher. He is the whistleblower of the ongoing struggle to foil desperate attempts of Karnataka state to divert the waters of the Mhadei river, flowing through Sahyadri Ghat. As a Secretary, he is heading the Mhadei Bachao Movement in order to save Goa from environmental destruction, acute water scarcity and the livelihood of thousands of farmers living all along the Mhadei river, which joins the Arabian Sea at Panaji in Goa as the famous River Mandovi. He is also known for his media columns on Goa’s environment, history, archaeology and Folk.
